Some employees may take the time to drink a little alcohol when company hours are out. There’s often the danger, however, when that one drink develops into an addiction, it can spill over into the professional arena and create volatile situations. The responsibility is now on you to have the employee undergo therapy at a credible treatment center.
The severity of the drinking problem may result in a patient being asked to stay at the center for a period between 30 to 90 days. Your treatment center will arrange for lodging as part of the program.
Stopping a Relapse
The treatment plan that will be designed for your employee will be according to your consultation data, and will include activities that the patient can engage in during the recovery period to help him or her slowly regain control.
The Americans with Disabilities Act and the Family Medical Leave Act note that employers can allow alcohol-stricken employees to seek treatment as long as the latter shows willingness to fix themselves. After all, when placing oneself in the hands of people who understand the triggers of alcohol addiction, a person can be helped to find the power within to ultimately win the battle over the bottle.
